Toyohara Chikanobu (1838-1912) was a Japanese painter and woodblock print artist who was most active during the Meiji-period. Prior to his artistic career, Chikanobu was in the military. He then joined the school of Utagawa Kuniyoshi. His motifs are diverse, among others he portrayed Japanese myths, battle scenes and Kabuki-actors.
