In the paintings by Gerhard Ausborn (1933-2021) realism and surrealism are uniquely combined to an enigmatic work of art. Technically, Ausborn preferred to paint in watercolour, which allowed him shifting from soft to strong colours.
As a hanseatic, Gerhard Ausborn was highly fascinated by harbours, therefore he went on cargo ships to paint new maritime places during shore excursions. So the motifs of the paintings are in evidence to Ausborns cosmopolitan life, showing the maritime skylines of Los Angeles or New York, as well as the polar region and the beauty of Iceland or Japan.
