Katsukawa Shunsho (1726-1793) was a Japanese ukiyo-e woodblock print artist. He founded his own school, the Katsukawa school and taught several disciples, among them the famous Katsushika Hokusai. Shunsho’s motifs range from depictions of Kabuki-actors over Sumo-wrestlers to female beauties (bijin), his woodblock prints could often be found in books. Shunsho also was active as a painter.
