Marc Chagall (1887-1985) was a French-Russian painter of Jewish religion. His topics and motifs were heavily inspired by the rural landscape of his Russian home country, especially by Jewish culture. Additionally, Paris and his contact to musicians and acrobats served as inspiration as well. In Paris, Chagall discovered his talent for painting and used Gouache; a coating paint mixed with water. This technique was fitting, for Chagall employed an improvising and spontaneous painting style.
