Wolfgang Werkmeister (born 1941) works and lives in Schleswig-Holstein and Hamburg. He completed his first etching at the age of 21, and the technique remains his primary form of artistic expression to this day. Especially his views of Hamburg, which he created from 1962 on, fascinate and excite due to Werkmeister’s artistic skill. Werkmeister holds a great deal of love and fascination for Hamburg, and thus created the “Hamburg-Zyklus”, a series of etchings where he captures the essence of the city as an urban area. Herein, the architectural dominates the scenery in form of churches, pontons, bridges, and houses. Werkmeister utilizes the stark contrast of black and white as a characteristic stylistic device.
