Georg Schulz (born 1952) is mostly known for his woodwork characters, which he coats in easy and light paint, giving them clothes and personality but nonetheless leaving in them a certain grotesqueness. Every single one of his sculptures surprises and amuses through the simple and sharp portrayal of humanity and character. Even though Georg Schulz seems to neglect finetuning by only roughly and coarsely carving the wood for his characters, his sculptures seem to live. They portray emotion as well as irony, like a good caricature does, and thus seem to confront the observer with their own absurdity.
