André Masson (1896-1897) was a French painter and graphic artist. His work portrays an existential uneasiness, stemming from Masson’s traumatic experiences from two world wars. His work was first influenced by cubism, but Masson later joined the surrealists. His graphic works exhibit a great emphasis on lines and form and are testament to Masson’s intensive research on east Asian calligraphy.
