Erika Hegewisch (born 1937 in Dortmund) is a german graphic artist. She studied at the art school of Wuppertal and was an assistant to Michael Lentz at the Westdeutsche Allgemeine Zeitung. She creates many intense illustrations focused on shadows, darkness, and light within the darkness, which are sometimes based on modern or classical stories. Hegewisch’s works manage to create a certain pleasant uneasiness within the observer, stemming from her unique style of creating scenes and pictures out of darkness, reminiscent of a walk in the dark or a camera on night vision, stirring up emotions tense and pleasing alike. Hegewisch works as an independent artist since 1986.
