Dorothea Maetzel Johannsen (1886-1930) was a modern German painter and co-founder of the “Hamburger Sezession”. In the 1920s, she created her most notable expressionistic paintings and etchings. Johannsen’s style is characterized by strong outlines. After her death, the Nazi-regime confiscated and destroyed several of her works.
